The coveted Victory Bell goes to the winner of the annual football game between George Washington (Eagles) and Lincoln (Mustangs) high schools in San Francisco. Additionally, the "best rooting section" receives the Megaphone Award. While the football teams still play for the Victory Bell, competition for the cheering section award appears to have ended with the 1963 Bell Game. Retired teacher Eleanor Matheu (Student Activities Coordinator at the time) confirmed that while she could not recall when, the Award had “disappeared.”
1963 Bell Game. Trailing by twelve at the half, the Eagles scored 13 unanswered points to beat the Mustangs and capture the Victory Bell. Our cheering section displayed great school spirit and we really yelled--the Megaphone Award was ours!
