Exhibit Curator Roberta Wong
Portland Chinatown Museum
(May 19-October 8, 2023)
Executive Director Anna Truxes introduced the Scholars Round Table panel: Roberta Wong (art advisor and curator for the Portland Chinatown Museum), Diana Greenwold Ph.D. (Lunder Curator of American Art at Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art), Jeannie Kenmotsu, Ph.D. (Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Curator of Asian Art at the Portland Art Museum), Sarah Baker Munro (called the historian of Timberline, author of Timberline Lodge: The History, Art, and Craft of an American Icon) and Dan Kee by Zoom (nephew of Bue Kee and early advocate for a museum retrospective of Bue Kee's work, resulting in the PCM exhibition).
Dr. Greenwold juxtaposed Hassan's Chinese Merchants and Bue Kee's Old Chinatown.
Dr. Kenmotsu presented an analysis of Bue Kee's self-portrait now showing at the Portland Art Museum exhibit Passages in American Art. Dr. Kenmotsu arranged a preview with Collections Manager Anne Crouchley (Cousin Dennis Tong joined).
Sarah Baker Munro offered historical context for Bue Kee's art pieces
displayed at Timberline Lodge.
